Computation of the Internet Checksum via Incremental Update Status of this Memo This memo provides information for the Internet community. This memo does not specify an Internet standard of any kind. Distribution of this memo is unlimited. Abstract This memo describes an updated technique for incremental computation of the standard Internet checksum. It updates the method described in RFC 1141.

Incremental updating of the Internet checksum
While the equation above is correct, it is not very useful for incremental updates since the equation above updates the checksum C, rather than the 1’s complement of the checksum, ̃C, which is the value stored in the checksum field. In addition, it suffers because the notation does not clearly specify that all arithmetic, including the unary negation, must be performed one’s complement, and so i...
متن کاملVlsi Implementation of Internet Checksum Calculation for 10 Gigabit Ethernet
Computer networks are limited in performance by the electronic equipment. Terminals have received little attention, but need to be redesigned in order to be able to manage 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The Internet checksum computation, which is used in TCP and UDP requires specialized processing resources. The TUCFP hardware accelerator calculates the Internet checksum. It processes 32 bits in parallel...
متن کاملA Design for an Internet Router with a Digital Optical Data Plane
This paper presents a complete design for an optical Internet router based on decomposing the steps required for IP packet forwarding. Implementations of hopcount decrement and header matching are integrated with a simulation-based approach to variable-length packet merging that avoids recirculation, resulting in an all-optical data plane. A method for IPv4 checksum computation is introduced, a...
متن کاملDigital optical processing of optical communications: towards an Optical Turing Machine
Optical computing is needed to support Tb/s innetwork processing in a way that unifies communication and computation using a single data representation that supports in-transit network packet processing, security, and big data filtering. Support for optical computation of this sort requires leveraging the native properties of optical wave mixing to enable computation and switching for programma...
متن کاملInteractive Analysis Using Voronoi Diagrams: Algorithms to Support Dynamic Update from a Generic Triangle-based Data Structure
This paper describes a series of dynamic update methods that can be applied to a family of Voronoi diagram types, so that changes can be updated incrementally, without the usual recourse to complete reconstruction of their underlying data structure. More efficient incremental update methods are described for the ordinary Voronoi diagram, the farthest-point Voronoi diagram, the order-k Voronoi d...
